Russian Feast

a rare peak inside the Victorian Russian community celebrating. The Food is simply delicious, and totally homely. as you can see, it begins with cold starters lining the tables. Things like: pickled coleslaws, dill cucumbers, cold meats, egg salads, dill, more dill, jellied meat (kind of like potted meat, but more emphasis on the jelly, like 80 % jelly 20% pork meat- its like a butter for bread, quite unbelievable the way it melts into a completely palatable and delicious fat, with no aggressive oily lining left in one's mouth.  and the setting -all nicely prepared, and really homely.

the cooks, for real. median age -80

then they pull out the meatballs, potato, and wash it down with home made vodka with heavy citrus twist (they have heaps of lemons growing so...)

and a cold salad of vermicelli noodle and vegetable to show the mongolian influence coming through.

Amazing lunch. Need and Want to go to Russia, just not expecting the Michelin Man to beat me there ... its all very rustic.
